Muscle Relaxing Injections
If you want to reduce the lines on your face without having to resort to surgical procedures, the good news is that facial rejuvenation techniques can soften wrinkles for a more youthful appearance.
Karen uses the Botulinum Toxin Type A, an injectable aesthetic solution for this treatment. Once injected into the skin, the botulinum toxin relaxes the tiny facial muscles which cause expression lines, achieved by blocking the nerve impulses in them, and leaving the skin looking smoother.
Muscle relaxing injections are commonly given in the upper part of the face, the three main areas being between the eyebrows (glabellar), forehead and crows feet (periorbital area).
Will I build up a resistance to it?
No, in general resistance to treatment is not seen, but it is important to adhere to the advice given to you by your practitioner, relating to the time intervals between treatments.
Is it painful?
Most people tolerate the treatment extremely well without any significant pain. You may experience a mild tingling during the injection, but post treatment most clients have no further pain.
Is there anything I need to avoid after treatment?
Yes. It is advisable not to do any strenuous exercise for 4-6 hours following treatment or repeated bending forwards. Steam & sauna's should also be avoided, but only temporarily.
Are there any side effects?
Some people may have a mild headache, and some mild swelling or reddening at the site of injection. In some cases there may be mild bruising.
Can I go back to work straight after treatment?
Most people can go straight back to work. The possible side effects should not have an effect on you carrying on with your day as normal.
How do I know if I am suitable for muscle relaxing injections, and is there an age limit?
A full consultation is necessary with your chosen practitioner to ensure you and they are happy to continue. Your practitioner may feel you would benefit from other procedures rather than muscle relaxing injections.
How long does it last and how often can I have the treatment carried out?
There are no guarantees , it is very individual depending on age, muscle activity metabolism and other variables. In general most clients see a good result for at least 12 weeks, and up to 36 weeks from each treatment. It is not advisable to have the treatment more frequently than every 12 weeks.
Dermal Fillers are an ideal treatment for anyone who has concerns about their lines or furrows from the nose to mouth area, lines around the eyes (crow's feet), or lines around the mouth, and each treatment can be tailored to your needs to provide a natural look. When used as a lip enhancement product, it can lend volume and definition to lips, producing a sensual, more pronounced pout. Clients who would like to redefine and soften the contours of their face also turn to dermal fillers as the results are so natural and subtle.
The fillers are chosen for there suitability for a particular area of the face and to achieve a desired effect. Some dermal fillers are thinner for finer lines (crows feet) and some are thicker for deeper folds and volume correction. They last varying amounts of time and are naturally reabsorbed by the body over time. The fillers used by Karen are; Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra (containing a local anaesthetic), and
Restylane. These are Hyaluronic Acid fillers, a naturally occurring product of the body which, due to the ageing process, decreases over time leaving lines, wrinkles, and deep folds in the skin. These products also have the following properties:
Non-migratory (they stay where they are put)
Long lasting but reabsorbable
The treatment is non-invasive, and with virtually no recovery time necessary, you can resume your normal activities immediately after the treatment.
How will I know which product to choose?
Karen will be able to advise you on the suitability of a variety of products but for most it is 'brand awareness' and personal choice.
Are there any side effects?
The most common side effects are bruising and swelling, especially if treating the lip area. This is a very sensitive area and will swell, although this will usually resolve within 24-48 hours.
